What No One Tells You About Open Doors

It’s more important how you walk through the door then what door you walk through.

Holy Spirit spoke these words as I was washing dishes one evening. They brought comfort to my weary soul in a season of decision-making.

I’d been numb waiting for a door to open, maybe even little offended. I thought God needed to move a little quicker. Had He heard my request and desires? Did He know of my faithfuness to serve and give of my time?

So focused on a new door opening I missed Him wanting to build my character. Shaping me into the women of God that could handle the next opportunity was His sole desire. Yet I was becoming anxious and doubtful that the next door would ever open.

God shapes our character to handle the weight of the next open door. If your character is being tried, you may be on the verge of an open door.

Missed opportunities, failed projects, slammed doors, over looked, and harsh words-a woman can quickly forget it’s all about love.

Love unlocks the doors of opportunities.

If I speak human or angelic languages but do not have love, I am a sounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so that I can move a mountains but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I donate all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body in order to boast but do not have love, I gain nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

Nothing? Really nothing? I know this scripture blows me away every time I read it!

I could serve my husband and have the cleanest house, yet not love…. I gain nothing.

I could have a successful ministry and several rewards to show for it, yet not love…I gain nothing.

I could work at the same job day and day out and excel in all areas, yet not love…I gain nothing.

I could home school my children and provide them with all the best, yet not love…I gain nothing.

I could serve at my church in every area. Be the first one there every Sunday, yet not love…I gain nothing.

I could travel the world and even tell others of Jesus, yet not love…I gain nothing.

I could finish my to-do-list everyday with time to spare, yet not love…I gain nothing.

We do anything with selfish gain…it amounts to nothing. (Yikes!)

I could walk through the right door at the right time, yet not love…I gain nothing.

Does this truth stop you in your tracks like it did me? Does it cause you to fall at the feet of Jesus asking Him to fill you with His love?

Let’s not be over-whelmed with self-love. Let’s be over-whelmed with His life changing love.

Is there any area in your life that you find yourself having trouble loving others in? Have you, like me, been so focused on the next open door that you have forgotten to simple love the people in front of you? How is God asking you to love other more deeply?

This Easter season the world won’t be changed through our selfish gain. Climbing the ladder of success won’t open doors to the Kingdom.

Love with no expectations. Love knowing all that matters is who you are before God.

When we all become like Jesus the world will take notice. When we all are willing to lower ourselves and rid ourselves of pride the world will take notice. When we take the time to love the people in front of us, revival will begin.

Hope will begin to rise and salvation will come to the loss when we love.

When I peel myself from the bed at 6am, I remind myself love is all that matters

Lord, help me to love deeper and wider. Help me to love like you love, a selfless love, a love that will overflow to others. Help me to love  the person right in front of me with a pure love, an uninterrupted patient love. Allow me to really see them and hear them. I want to love with no expectations as I wait for the next door to open. Thank you for coming to earth to show me how to love. Thank you, Holy Spirit, for filling me with your love. Thank you for loving me with an unending love to love others.
